| Glenna's Story |
When I was a senior at Northwestern University my parents, in their early 50's at the time, experienced their first real understanding of the Person of Christ. They became enthusiastic Christians. I, on the other hand, had become an enthusiastic, existential agnostic at the university. This divergence of opinion and understanding led to major philosophical problems when I went home for Thanksgiving vacation in my Senior year. My father, true to his wisdom and grace, challenged my intellectual fervor. "Why don't you return to the university and discover all the proofs that the Bible is not the Word of God and that Jesus is not God? We can discuss your findings at Christmas." The next few weeks of research produced the key turning point in my life. As I visited with one of the scientists at the Technological Institute at Northwestern, I discovered the mountains of scientific, geological and archaeological information which support the validity of the Old and New Testament. When I opened the Gospel of John I saw clearly, in the very first words of the book, that Jesus is God and the Creator of all things according to the written record. I was faced with a dilemma. Integrity of thought required that I must either believe all or none of the contents of the Book. To pick and choose what made sense to me was to elevate myself to the position of being the All-Knowing One. The resolution for me was to challenge the One who claimed to be the Truth. Quietly I asked Jesus Christ to make Himself known to me as God if indeed He was. The sky did not collapse nor was I struck by lightning, but for me there came a deep knowing that the Lord of Creation had become a human being in history and His Spirit had taken up residence in my spirit during my 21st year of life. This was the turning point that has held the key to my calling. God's wisdom, energy, love and grace compel me to bring His Life to others.
